Get ready for plenty of fun, as Launceston Carnival prepares to return this October.
Taking place on Saturday, 7th October, the carnival will once again welcome the masses to enjoy a day of fun activities, entertainment, and of course the magnificent carnival parade in the evening.
New to this year’s event is the added ‘Walking Illuminated’ category, allowing people to dress up, don themselves in glow sticks and lights, and get involved on a smaller scale. This category will be perfect for children and families who fancy being part of this fantastic town event, but might not be able to produce or access a float.
In the run-up to carnival day, there will be a scarecrow competition, a ‘deliberate mistake’ competition in local shop displays, plus the much-anticipated best dressed shop window! Children’s rides and entertainment will be taking place in the Square all day on the 7th October, along with the crowning of the carnival royalty and an appearance from Devon & Cornwall Fire & Rescue. Music from the likes of Barrett’s Privateers and Popchoir will get everyone in the carnival mood, before the moment everyone will have been waiting for officially begins.
The carnival parade, which is set to be totally magnificent with a plethora of floats and walking participants in 13 different categories, will start at 7.15pm at Newport, and will follow its usual route up to the town centre. So make sure you wrap up warm and grab a good spot to catch a glimpse of the exciting procession as it makes its way through town.
People are welcome to enter the carnival parade all the way up to midday on the 7th October, so grab some friends and start brainstorming your best carnival ideas!
