Launceston Lions celebrate 50 years

The Lions Club of Launceston have marked 50 years since their formation.

This was celebrated with a 50th Charter Anniversary lunch at Trethorne Golf Club in June. It was attended by the Mayor of Launceston, Lion Helen Bailey and her consort, Adrian Bailey, the District

Governor Lion James Mathers and his wife Lion Gail.

A welcome visitor was Jeff Roberts, who was a Charter member of the Club.

The Lions support people across the world, but have carried out many hours of service in the

community during the past 50 years, from marshalling the carnival and assisting with car parking at

Launceston Show, to donating polo shirts to the Launceston Rugby Colts and Town Band juniors, and

donating laptops and books to local schools.

The club is always amazed by the kindness of local knitters who make Trauma Teds, which go to the MIU to bring comfort and distraction to young children in difficult circumstances. These are also much loved by dementia patients in the local care homes. The Premature Baby Units are kept supplied with hats and squares.

The Lions Club of Launceston has helped so many people in so many ways over the past 50 years, as well as providing fun for its members. They are all looking forward to continuing their support in the community.
