Forest for Launceston has arrived!

By Lottie Wilson

It’s finally here! The grand opening of the Forest for Launceston is upon us, and we could

not be more exited to share this news.

On Saturday 22nd July, the new community space will open its gates and be ready to be enjoyed by the wonderful Launceston community. The project aims to improve the health and wellbeing of locals by increasing people’s connection with our one-of-a-kind, Cornish wildlife.

The volunteer-led community project has garnered support from over a hundred volunteers and contributors and has exceeded its funding target of £5,000 to help develop the woodland as the community want.

The project has so far developed footpaths, repaired fencing and look to sustain biodiversity in the area over the next 12 months with additional planting, dormouse nest boxes, bug hotels and more. On the day the community will be free to roam the 12 acres of woodland and meadow, and register their interest through the website in either volunteering, or suggestions for how they would like to see the site developed in the future.

Forest for Launceston is now calling for sculptors to register their interest to contribute their artistic skills and create a piece for the community project. To find out more or register your interest, email ops.forestforlaunceston@gmail.com.
