Have you ever wondered how you can improve your health and wellbeing, but don’t know how to start?
Launceston’s latest shop Ethos may be able to help! An ethical clothing, health and supplementary food shop on Northgate Street, Ethos has been launched by Irena Jordi-Slater, a naturopathic nutritionist still in training, who is passionate about providing more awareness and accessibility to nutrition and wellbeing.
With supplements, health foods, clothing from Nomads, essential oils and much more, Ethos offers top quality products to aid health and wellbeing.
Irena, who was busy unpacking some stock as Launceston Life popped into the shop, said: “I knew it was going to be a lot of work. It’s been fun but very time consuming, researching new suppliers to ensure everything is good quality. I’ve taken on some brands we had before in the shop (which was formerly Nomads), and a collection which offers something a bit different.”
The vision for Ethos is to be a Fairtrade wellbeing shop, offering supplement brands such as Terranova, New Era and Dr Vogel.
Irena, from Switzerland, has always been interested in health: “Natural medicine and the herbs to use have always been common knowledge there (in Switzerland). It’s much more accessible there and in Germany - it’s part of the kitchen!
“My grandmother was an anthropath and I remember she would get her big Dr Vogel book out, which was based on different natural remedies and foods with healing properties, so that’s how I grew up. My mum has always been a very good cook, always making natural and fresh food, and so I carried on this philosophy of life and the connection with nature.”
Irena grew up learning the benefits of natural foods and herbs, and is now studying naturopathic nutrition. She understands the importance of incorporating as many natural ingredients and vegetables into the everyday diet, as well as how supplements and essential oils can aid the body. Natural medicine can be used either alone or alongside pharmaceutical products, providing counteraction has been checked and it is safe to do so.
“The response has been amazing,” Irena said. “Ideally we get all the best nutrients from our food, but in reality people can still get ill so sometimes we just need to combine the two.”
Ethos will be having a grand opening event on Saturday, 30th April from 10am - so make sure you head over to see Irena and take a look at all the fantastic products she has to offer. There will be a hamper to win with lots of goodies. Collect your raffle tickets for every £10 spent.
Ethos will be open 10am-4pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 1pm-5.30pm Thursdays, 10am-4pm Fridays and 10am-3pm Saturdays.
